It's never too late to recognize change makers in the Cairo-Durham Central School District!
Congratulations to Zachary Russell, a member of the class of 2024 at Cairo Durham High School, for being recognized as the March 2024 Student of the Month. Zach is very involved in various school activities. He is a five-sport athlete (soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track and field, volleyball, and baseball). He participates in the music program through playing the saxophone and singing in the chorus.
Even with his many activities, he maintains an average on the High Honor Roll while taking college-level courses.
Beyond school, Zach likes to spend time with his family and friends. If you spoke to any of Zach’s teacher’s you would hear the same thing, he is kind, hardworking, intrinsically motivated and always brings a good sense of humor to class. Mrs. Jones admires his “dedication to his academics, but also the ability to balance it all!” He is admired and respected by the faculty and his peers. As a member of the National Honor Society, he is a role model to his peers through his strong commitment to academics, his high moral standards and leadership skills in the classroom and on the sports field.
According to Zach, “All of my teachers are very supportive and helpful.” Zach plans to attend a college with the aspiration of becoming an engineer.

On May 5, 2024, members of the Cairo-Durham High School Interact Club met the bus filled with donated items from the New York State Ancient Order of Hibernians in America, and the New York State Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in America.
Their "Stuff the Bus" fundraiser, collected at their annual Spring Board meetings in East Durham, certainly kept the Cairo-Durham Central School District Transportation Department, Interact Club students and Cairo Food Pantry members busy all day organizing the food. Pictures shown have filled the bus with snacks, juice boxes and soup items. This has been one of the most successful fundraisers for the Backpack Program, a program that has been in existence since 2008. Thank you to all of those involved!
