May 21, 2024 was a busy, but fun day for the 5th grade at Cairo-Durham Elementary School!
The day started with a tour of Cairo-Durham Middle School where students learned about the new school they will be attending in September and a stop at the 6th grade's Culture Fair. At the end of the tour, students and staff were surprised with a chorus and Jazz ensemble performance that was absolutely amazing!
Upon returning to the elementary school, the entire 5th grade attended a workshop that was set up by Principal Christopher Stein. The workshop gave the students an opportunity to learn about different trees, how there are many trades that involve woodworking, and how to make a tool box out of wood parts they provided. The students all got to use a hammer and nails, and did an awesome job! As the students left, they were given a really cool tape measure that included a level, sticky notes, and pen all in one!

On May 23, 2024, Mrs. Beare's class at Cairo-Durham Elementary School disected a poppi plant! The class took apart the different pieces of a plant and put them into categories. They were able to name and label each part of a plant and what their function is. The students then compared a sprout of a poppi plant to one that was bloomed. Way to go, Mustangs!
