NEWS RELEASE from Cairo-Durham Central School District FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2023-24 Cairo-Durham Middle School Fourth Quarter Honor Rolls Announced CAIRO, NY, July 3, 2024 – The Cairo-Durham Central School District is excited to announce its Middle School Principal’s Honor Roll, High Honor Roll and Honor Roll members for the fourth quarter of the 2023-24 school year. To qualify for Principal’s Honor Roll, students must record a grade point average of 95 or higher throughout the quarter. To qualify for High Honor Roll, students must record a grade point average between 90 and 94. To qualify for Honor Roll, students must record a grade point average between 85 and 89. Congratulations to Kimberly R., and Paislee S. from Ms. Lembo's class and Lilly W. from Mrs. Russell's class at Cairo-Durham Elementary School for ranking first, second and third, respectively, in taking out and returning books from the Cairo-Durham Elementary School Library! All three students received a Barbie Pez dispenser and Kimberly R. received an ice cream for being the first place finisher! Way to go, Mustangs!

Congratulations to Zachary Russell for being named the Cairo Durham High School "Student of the Year" for 2024! Zach is committed to both his academics and non-academic activities. His perseverance is being recognized for years of dedication to his academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. Zach is very involved in various school activities. He is a five-sport athlete (soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track and field, volleyball, and baseball). He participates in the music program through playing the saxophone and singing in the chorus. Even with his many activities, he maintains an average on high honor roll while taking college level courses. Beyond his impressive array of accomplishments, Zachary's humility and kindness have endeared him to all who have interacted with him. Both peers and educators alike attest to his remarkable character, portraying him as a role model for others to emulate. Zach leaves to continue in his academic and athletic journey at Alfred University, where he will pursue a degree in engineering and play baseball for them. Every year, the Cairo Durham High School teachers recognize and honor a student every month during the school year. From those winners, a "Student of the Year: is selected. The student is nominated and then voted on by the teachers and staff in the high school. The student is awarded a certificate and a $100 gift card at Senior Awards night. Way to go, Zachary! Can't wait to see you and your fellow classmates graduate TONIGHT at 7:30 p.m. at the athletics stadium at Cairo-Durham High School!

Congratulations to Cairo-Durham High School junior William Stallbohm on being "matched" to work at CA Albright this summer in the field of HVAC, through his participation in Questar III BOCES Youth Apprenticeship Program at Donald R. Kline Technical School! The Questar III BOCES Youth Apprenticeship Program links students with local, high-wage, high-demand, high-skill careers. Thanks to many business partnerships, thirty students from across three Career and Technical Education schools have been matched with local businesses to work this summer. Matched students in Automotive Technologies, Construction Technologies, Heavy Equipment Repair and Operations, HVAC, and Welding will complete a minimum of 200 hours of paid, on-the-job training before returning for their senior year this fall. Students were recognized at a "Matching Day" event where they signed a letter of intent for the program with their families and representatives of the businesses they will be working at present.
