Cairo-Durham Middle and High School Names Second Assistant Principal:
October 3, 2024
CAIRO, NY – During the Cairo-Durham Central School District Board of Education meeting on September 25, 2024, Austin Crittenden was appointed as the second Assistant Principal at the Cairo-Durham Middle and High School.
Mr. Crittenden, born in Red Hook, NY, lives in his hometown with his wife and two children. Austin Crittenden earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Quinnipiac University, a Masters of Art in Teaching (MAT) from Bard College, and a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in educational leadership from SUNY New Paltz.
“Outside of school, you might find me exploring the Hudson Valley with my family, playing basketball, or attending a local trivia night,” Mr. Crittenden said.
Austin Crittenden has always received inspiration from those who make a positive social impact. So, he was drawn to education as it’s a field with extensive opportunities that allow for personal and professional growth with plenty of moments to spread positivity.
During Austin’s time in the Arlington Central School District, he was both a middle and high school social studies teacher. During those nine years of teaching at Arlington CSD, Mr. Crittenden also took on other roles such as being a coach, a club advisor, and a member of several building committees. He later earned his School Building Leader (SBL) certification to better serve his district.
“In the classroom, I have shown a commitment to my students by prioritizing their well-being and achievement. I work to inspire a culture of growth among students, the same mindset that has empowered my development as an educator. I am also passionate about ensuring that school is a welcoming and inclusive space where every student can find a sense of belonging,” Mr. Crittenden said. “The proudest moments in my career have been when I have gone the extra mile to support my most vulnerable students– as a caring teacher, coach, and advisor. I have been consistently impressed by the learning and achievements of my students. I look forward to making sure that students at the Cairo-Durham Middle and High School feel seen, supported, and celebrated by their school and I’m excited to see what they’re capable of.”

On Friday, October 11, all Cairo-Durham CSD schools will be dismissed early. The middle and high schools will dismiss at 11:45 am, and the elementary school and AM Pre-K will dismiss at 12:45 pm. There will not be any PM Pre-K. Buses will still transport high school students to Questar programs at their normally scheduled times.
