The Cairo-Durham Middle School STAR students took an end-of-year field trip to Historical Olana in Columbia County. The students were given a guided nature hike of the property. The class made stops and learned about different art techniques that were common to Frederic Church. The students were also given their own journals to sketch out the beautiful landscapes they observed.
The class had the opportunity to learn about water color sketching and were given a canvas to create their own unique landscapes after their observations of the scenic landscapes.

Members of the Cairo-Durham Middle School Star Program delivered an excellent presentation to the Board of Education on June 8, describing how their program has greatly benefitted their education and learning process! Way to go, students!

Students in Ms. Meyers' social studies classes had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Maryann Alli. She spoke to students about the naturalization process and what it takes to become a citizen of the United States.
Maryann was born in Ghana and came to America with her family when she was 13, first to New Jersey and then to upstate NY. Maryann then went through the process in her 20's to become a naturalized citizen. She spoke to students about her naturalization process, how she is not a dual citizen, about the interview process, the citizenship test and the swearing in ceremony.
Students had a glimpse of the types of questions asked for the interview process and if they indeed knew the answers themselves. Students were very intrigued in the process, similarities and differences between America and Ghana.
Thank you, Ms. Alli for sharing your story with us!
