Happy Holidays from Superintendent Michael Wetherbee!
Dec. 22, 2023
Dear Cairo-Durham Central School District Families, Faculty and Staff,
It’s a pleasure to write to you and your loved ones and wish you all a happy and safe holiday season. I hope you all take the time to share what you are grateful for and enjoy this special time together.
It has been a busy year thus far full of progress for our district, and I’d like to highlight just a few key points that stood out.
Our classrooms and hallways have been filled with many bright-minded students and faculty members looking to better themselves and their peers every day. The ability of both sides to interact cohesively and produce quality results in all three schools has provided me a sense of pride.
In regard to business, continued efforts to work on securing grants, equipment and opportunities by our central office staff and faculty have not gone unnoticed. We are inching closer to budget season and look forward to filling you in on the progress, plans and development of the district as a whole.
A prominent feature for the District this year has been the use of the Wellness Center, offering community members 18 years and older the chance to work out for free. We look forward to more applications in the upcoming year.
Our students and faculty have exemplified the saying “practice makes perfect” with their efforts in competitive athletic contests, marvelous winter performances and stunning artwork. Their efforts make the start of 2024 even more anticipated.
We will continue to spotlight the positive difference makers in our district and spread the important traits of kindness, responsibility, accountability, respect and empathy amongst all members. Maintaining and ensuring a safe and successful working and learning environment for our faculty and students remains one of my highest priorities.
Steady growth and sustainability for the District combined with the positivity radiating out of each and every member of the Mustang community are what make my job exciting and worthwhile, and I thank you all for your work this year. Here’s to a prosperous, collaborative and joyous 2024 building off of the success of 2023!
Sincerely,
Michael Wetherbee
Superintendent of Schools

Members of Broadview Federal Credit Union recently stopped by Cairo-Durham Middle School/High School to conduct a financial education engagement activity with students in grades 6-8 and grade 12 on the importance of financial management.
Topics across the grades were entrepreneurship (grade 6), mindful consumer spending (grade 7), financial quiz game and practical spending simulations (grade 8), and costs of independent living (grade 12), with all content aligning with New York State 21st Century Education Standards and State and National Financial Education Standards.
268 Cairo Durham students completed the Broadview pre- and post- financial education assessments.
Collectively, students noted a 24% increase in confidence as it pertains to overall financial confidence. This percentage is determined by students’ assessment answers, rating their perceived ability to complete financial tasks, such as writing out a spending plan, keeping track of spending and income, saving money regularly, spending less than you earn and creating a clear set of action step to meet financial goals.

The Cairo-Durham High School "12 Days of Spirit" will see theme days for grades 9-12 from Dec. 7 to Dec. 22!

Congratulation to the December 2023 Cairo-Durham Wellness Center "Beast of the Month", Jeremiah Newkirk!
