Today, Feb. 9, 2024, Ms. O'Brien's Cairo-Durham High School class learned about a famous Civil Rights lawyer and the First African American Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall. Marshall successfully overturned "separate, but equal" laws with the famous Brown vs. Board of Education case in 1954. The class's quote of the week comes from Mr. Marshall as seen here!

On March 14, 2024, the Cairo-Durham High School Classes are hosting an 'Elementary Teacher vs. Middle/High School Teacher' basketball game as a fundraiser! Tickets for entrance to the game will be sold, as well as concessions. The CDTA will sell 50/50 tickets, with proceeds toward the CDTA Scholarship fund. The Booster Club will be selling School Merchandise. Congratulations to Brendan Banks for being named January 2024's "Beast of the Month" for the Cairo Durham Wellness Club! Since the beginning of last year, Brendan has lost approximately 100 pounds while increasing his bench press by roughly 50 pounds. This success is a direct result of Brendan's hard work and dedication. Way to go, Brendan!

Several times throughout the year, Mrs. Jones at Cairo-Durham High School offers candy guesses to her students. The winner gets the candy in the container and bonus points on the next quiz. There was 182 Cookies and Cream Hershey Kisses in the container and the winner was Loretta S., who was the closest with her guess of 187 candies. Way to go, Loretta!

2024 Mustang Pride Hall of Fame Nominations Open! Do you know a person or community organization that has given extensive service to the Cairo-Durham Central School District? Nominate them for the Mustang Pride Hall of Fame! To nominate a person or community organization, please use this nomination form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfMg8B8x-nRUYL-EkALeiWsyzpATC10DzL_WNcjTAiiZnQbAA/viewform?usp=sf_link). See below for the criteria. Nominations will be accepted through February 1, 2024. The chosen nominees will be honored at a Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Shamrock House on April 27, 2024. Criteria: Nominees must have contributed to the improvement of Cairo-Durham CSD with extensive service through: academics, athletics, coaching, teaching, administration, employment, volunteerism and/or community service. Nominees can be past or present staff members, school administrators, Board of Education members, alumni and community members or organizations. (Please note that a former student nominee must be out of school for at least 10 years to be considered for induction into the Mustang Pride Hall of Fame.) Some examples of extensive service/support include (but are not limited to): Academics (e.g., teaching, tutoring). Involvement in school athletics (e.g., coaches, officials, volunteers). Mentoring.
