This week students learned about social intelligence. No matter the age, our students showed they can recognize emotions in others and support each other. #positivityinaction

On March 15 & 16, we will be distributing COVID-19 home test kits for any families that want them:

Tuesday, March 15th AND Wednesday, March 16th from 7-8 p.m. at CDMS/HS (test kits will be available for pick up following the Music in Our Schools band and chorus concerts)
There is no student attendance next Friday, March 18th due to a superintendent's conference day.

Ms. Flubacher’s fifth graders dissected owl pellets when they were learning about energy and ecosystems. They were able to discover what owls eat, then establish the energy flow and create a food pyramid based on what they discovered. They determined that owls were at the top of the pyramid, then the mouse (because of the mouse bones found in the pellets), then insects/bugs, and then plants at the bottom.

What’s your favorite word? One of CDEs favorite words is “grateful” after the Cairo Rotary Club donated dozens of brand new dictionaries to third grade classes. Student were so excited to receive their own dictionaries to take home!

The Cairo-Durham high school drama club came to CDE and performed the play Joseph and the technicolor dream coat for our 5th graders. It was an amazing show!

Fifth-graders in Mrs. Fitzgerald's class are stretching their legs and practicing their math skills with the many "Math Task" cards in the hallway.

Before break, student Naylor was recognized by the custodial staff for all his helpful efforts to keep our school clean and organized. Naylor lends a helping hand every day and takes pride in our school, so he was given his own official Cairo-Durham badge! #positivityInAction

School is back in session on Monday, 2/28. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable break!
In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, student council has organized a Dr. Seuss themed spirit week beginning this Monday 2/28. Click this link for more information. https://5il.co/16akv
Great projects at the third grade Frog Expo today!

PLANNED INTERNET OUTAGE: Our internet and phone service will be temporarily disconnected starting this Friday, 2/18 (after dismissal) for the purpose of relocating our servers. This is a necessary step in the capital project. Service should be restored by the middle of next week (winter recess).
Students at CDE pledged to be kind to one another by decorating hearts and putting them on a kindness tree. Thank you to our counselors and student council for organizing the kindness tree. #kindness #positivityinaction

This morning we were visited by the CDE Cupid Mr. Singer for Valentine’s Day. He spread love and cheer all over the school.

WINTER RECESS: Schools will be closed Monday, 2/21 through Friday, 2/25 for winter recess.
Happy 100th Day of School! Here are some great kindergarten projects focusing on the number 100

In honor of school counselors week, CDE would like to thank counselor Mr. Becker for all his dedicated hard work with our students. #thankacounselor #positivityinaction

4th and 5th graders in Mr. Heilmann’s special education class are beginning to learn valuable life skills. Recently they made independent choices about what they wanted to have for a special lunch, and they picked things like sandwiches, tacos, and yogurt parfait with fruit. After selecting their ingredients from a grocery store pamphlet, the students had to add up the prices so they would know the cost. They even got to make their own lunches when the ingredients arrived. What are you having for lunch today?

Schools are closed Friday, February 4, 2022, due to inclement weather.
Thank you to everyone who made Mr. Stein’s birthday so special. The cards, balloons, cookies, and birthday wishes were wonderful!
