Dear Cairo-Durham Families & Community,
We are making progress in our summer plans for the capital project and summer school. Please be advised of the following changes that will occur this summer:
Temporary Program/Office Relocations
CDE will be closed for asbestos abatement work for much of the summer. Therefore, elementary summer school will be held at the middle/high school campus (age-appropriate furniture will be moved there for elementary students).
Elementary administration and office staff will be relocated to the middle school during the summer (Room B11). The phone number for the CDE main office will remain the same during this temporary relocation (518-622-3231).
The middle school main office will also be temporarily relocated this summer due to capital project construction at the middle/high school. The CDMS main office will move to the middle school cafeteria and summer school classrooms will be in the rear of the building, away from the construction.
Summer School Transportation
Transportation for summer school (K-12) will be provided and it will be door-to-door pick-up and drop off. Once the Transportation Department finalizes the summer bus routes, families will be notified. We expect this to occur by the end of June. Please note that masks/face coverings are still required on school buses and inside school buildings in accordance with state regulations. An update will be issued if this guidance changes.
Changes to Entrances & Parking at CDMS/HS
Please be advised that both front entrances of the middle/high school will be closed due to construction at the front of the building this summer.
All students participating in summer school (K-12) should be dropped off at the back right side of the building by the high school cafeteria and basketball hoops (see image below). Buses will drop off students in the back lot and staff will be present to help students get where they need to go.
Any other individuals who need to come to the middle/high school during the summer should use the door on the left side of the building into the middle school cafeteria (where the MS office will be located for the summer). Use the stone access road immediately to the left as you get to the top of the hill for parking and access to the side door of the middle school cafeteria (see image below). Signs will be posted.
Looking Ahead to September 2021
We anticipate the new HVAC system at CDE, including air conditioning, to be completed before the start of the new school year.
The current high school cafeteria will receive a new serving line to accommodate all middle and high school meals this fall. We anticipate the new Media Center, middle/high school administrative offices and the Guidance suite to be completed before school starts in September.
