Also, students visited the Patient Safety & Clinical Competency Center at Albany Medical College, where high-tech patients act out symptoms for doctors and nurses to practice their skills on them. Our students and staff enjoyed the visit!

Juniors in Ms. McDowell’s class at Cairo-Durham High School collaborated with their peers to create a “monster” to win the first ever “May Monster Mania of 2024.” Each team was required to use a set amount of provided materials (pipe cleaners, googly eyes, string, popsicle sticks, and pompoms). You may notice some monsters include other creative materials—this played a small role in final decisions.
The overall goal was for students to identify a claim, two supporting reasons, a counter argument, rebuttal, and provide a conclusion. This means each team had to effectively and logically support their claim with reasoning to the judges to win. Ms. McDowell was joined by Mrs. Maassmann and Mrs. Lyndon as “Monster Mania judges.” We had a blast! Congratulations to Brendan, Zander, and Dylan for being named the winners!
