Take a look at the schedule for Spirit Week at CDES for Nov. 14-18!

More and more students are earning rewards with their Mustang money. Students are enjoying lunch with a friend or sibling, time with Mac, or helping in the office. Keep up the great work!

Four CDES students stopped by to visit Superintendent Wetherbee and the District Office for their fundraiser of selling candy bars to support the purchase of necessary supplies for those in poverty and in need! Way to go, students!

For the past few weeks, Miss Wagor’s 5th grade class has been reading several science texts and working to determine the central idea and key details of each text.
Students began with a short excerpt on the moon, followed by a lesson on identifying constellations. The scholars had the opportunity to create their own constellations with spaghetti and marshmallows.
Next, students read how Pluto stopped being a planet. Students identified a key detail to support this claim, such as how a planet has to clear its neighborhood of smaller objects around its orbit to be considered a planet, which Pluto failed to do.
Lastly, students read about how stars explode and included details leading up to the event. In conclusion, students were assigned a planet and a group where they conducted research on their planet. Then, they each created their own paper mache planets with flour, newspaper, water, paint, and hot glue!

The Rotarians of the Cairo-Durham Rotary Club recently handed out dictionaries to the third grade! Thank you for your kind donation!

The Cairo Rotary Club donated a dictionary for every 3rd grader at CDE. Yesterday the Rotarians came and distributed the dictionaries and showed students how to use them. Thanks to our local Rotary for supporting our students and education!

SRO Deputy Espel visited with the AM and PM Pre-K students in Ms. MacGifffert's classes this week to speak about Halloween safety!
Students were reminded to stay with their trusted adults, wear well-fitted costumes, and use flashlights and glow sticks to see where they are going and to be seen by others around them, along with the importance of having grown-ups check candy before eating it.
SRO Deputy Espel wants our kids to have fun while they Trick or Treat but make sure the fun is SAFE! Thank you for all you do!

5th Grade students in Ms. Prinz's class have been busy creating models of constellations out of marshmallows and dry pasta as well as "positivity pumpkins"! In the process of both projects, teamwork and building up a strong self-esteem were emphasized. Great job, students!

The Halloween Parade at Cairo-Durham Elementary School is back on Oct. 31 at 1:30 p.m., but with a twist!
This year, families are welcomed to stand along the soccer fields for the parade. If you are picking up your child immediately following the parade, you MUST complete the Halloween pick up form by 10/28 (https://5il.co/1jp59).
Parents/guardians who do not complete the form will wait until the planned pickups are dismissed.
Can't wait to see the Spooky Mustang Pride!

Look at this awesome submission in Ms. Bowen's 3rd Grade class as a part of their "What Am I?" project!
Students were tasked with creatively writing clues for their classmates to guess what they were describing. This submission by Nicole describes her classmates as wearing clothes every day, having different skins and being very good friends!
