CAIRO, N.Y. — The Cairo-Durham Central School District welcomes Mrs. Rebecca Harnage as the assistant principal of Cairo-Durham Elementary School.
Mrs. Harnage brings 22 years of experience in New York City Public Schools, with a brief return to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she is originally from. Throughout her career, she has taught across all elementary grade levels.
Her previous leadership experience includes mentoring and supporting new teachers, leading professional learning for educators and serving on a school leadership team. She also led schoolwide initiatives, including organizing her previous school’s first STEAM Fair.
“I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new Assistant Principal,” Mrs. Harnage said. “My family and I have recently moved to the area, and we are excited to become part of the Cairo-Durham community.”
Mrs. Harnage is especially passionate about social-emotional learning, mathematics and science. She believes meaningful learning happens when students discover what interests and inspires them.
“I love getting to know students, meeting them where they are academically, building on their strengths and passions, and providing just the right challenges to help them experience success within a safe, supportive community,” she said.
As she begins the school year, Mrs. Harnage is focused on connecting with students, families and staff.
“I am looking forward to listening, learning, building relationships, and working alongside you to create an environment where every child feels known, valued, supported, and motivated to grow,” she said. “I feel incredibly fortunate to be beginning this next chapter with the Cairo-Durham community.”
Outside of school, Mrs. Harnage enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors, traveling, staying active, practicing yoga, and attending concerts and theater. She is a parent of two children and has lots of animals at home.
