The Cairo-Durham Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Monet Halliday (pronounced Mo-NAY) as the new Elementary School Principal, effective July 20, 2026.
Superintendent Dr. Dotan Schips said that Halliday distinguished herself during the interview process.
“She immediately stood out as someone who loves kids, deeply understands data-driven instruction, supports her staff, and would be a seamless fit for Cairo-Durham Elementary,” Dr. Schips said.
Halliday brings a passion for elementary education, literacy, and building strong school communities. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to helping children develop a love of learning while ensuring every student feels seen, supported, and valued.
"I am incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to join Cairo-Durham as your next Elementary Principal," Halliday said. "As I prepare for the upcoming school year, what excites me most is the opportunity to build relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, and community members."
Halliday believes that strong relationships, high expectations, and a sense of belonging are the foundation of a thriving school community.
"My leadership philosophy is grounded in the belief that every child deserves to feel known, valued, challenged, and supported each day they walk through our doors," she said. "I believe that when strong relationships are paired with high-quality teaching and learning, amazing things can happen for children."
With a background in elementary education and literacy instruction, Halliday is especially passionate about helping students become confident readers, writers, thinkers, and problem-solvers. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Literacy Education at the University at Albany, where her research focuses on strengthening partnerships between schools and families to support student achievement.
"Over the coming months, I look forward to listening, learning, and building positive relationships with all the people who make Cairo-Durham such a special community," she said. "Together, we will continue to create a school environment where students are inspired to grow academically, socially, and emotionally, and where families feel welcomed as true partners in their children's education."
She added that she is looking forward to celebrating students and becoming an active member of the Mustang community.
"I cannot wait to meet you, celebrate your children, and begin this exciting journey together," Halliday said. "Go Mustangs!"
Outside of school, Halliday enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and seeking new opportunities to learn and grow.
