I-Kid-a-Rod (6th grade)

Our sixth-grade students celebrated their annual I-Kid-a-Rod Day on April 2, the culminating event after following the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race all March! In addition to reading Woodsong by Gary Paulsen, students randomly selected mushers and tracked their progress during the race. They also wrote letters to their mushers. The student whose musher received an award at the Iditarod banquet was recognized at the I-Kid-a-Rod banquet as well.

On I-Kid-a-Rod Day, students work in teams to "race." Along the route, they solved puzzles at checkpoints and practiced fractions and measurement skills by making their own trail mix. After the morning activities, students watched Iron Will. The day concluded with a finisher's banquet where they were surprised with a special demonstration from the Greene County Sherriff's K9 Unit.

Our sixth-grade students completed their pet supply drive, donating the items collected to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.
