Cairo-Durham Middle and High School has a newly formed No Place for Hate (NPFH) Committee. More than 20 middle and high school students have joined the group. The purpose of the committee is to promote a school culture rooted in inclusivity, belonging, and respect, while proactively addressing bias, harassment, and exclusion through student-led and staff-supported initiatives.
This week, the group conducted its first major initiative, the No Place for Hate Pledge Campaign. The pledge asks students and staff to commit to treating others with dignity, speaking up against bias and bullying, and taking responsibility for creating a safe and inclusive school community. The campaign was met with strong engagement across the building with students learning about the pledge in social studies classes and having the opportunity to sign it in the media center and cafeteria. The committee is proud to report that participation exceeded its goal, with nearly 80% of students and faculty signing the pledge.
