School Closings
The Cairo-Durham Central School District would like to remind students, staff and families about how the District will handle weather-related closures and delays. Please click here for the 2023-24 school year PDF document.
Please remember that the geographic terrain throughout our District varies greatly. While it may seem like it is only raining in one town, the steep mountain areas could be experiencing heavy snowfall and/or icy road conditions. Our Transportation Department closely monitors conditions throughout the District prior to making final calls regarding delays or closures.
Weather-related closures
As always, schools will be closed when snow or poor road conditions make travel unsafe. There will be no classes on these snow days. In addition, all events will be canceled when school is closed, including Child Care.
Weather-related delays
When our Transportation Department needs extra time to prepare due to overnight weather conditions, the District will use either a one-hour delay or a two-hour delay. In this scenario, no breakfast will be served at the elementary school.
One-hour delay: All schools begin one hour later than usual and dismiss at the regular time.
Cairo-Durham Middle School/High School: 8:33 a.m.
Elementary: 10:00 a.m.
Two-hour delay: All schools begin two hours later than usual and dismiss at the regular time. Lunch will be served shortly after students arrive.
MS/HS: 9:33 a.m.
Elementary: 11:00 a.m.
Additional details
For both one-hour and two-hour delays, there will be no AM Half-Day Pre-K or morning BOCES CTE programs for high school students. If school is canceled or delayed, the Special Education Department will cancel all CSE meetings and will send a notice of rescheduled meetings to families who are impacted by these changes.
Weather-related early dismissal
If inclement weather requires the District to close early, all after-school and evening activities, including Community Education will be canceled. The time of dismissal will be dependent on the severity of the conditions and would be communicated as efficiently as possible.
