Becoming a Board Member

School board candidates should be committed to public education and the advancement of the Cairo-Durham Central School District. Responsibilities of school board members include:

  • Creating a shared vision for the future of education at Cairo-Durham

  • Setting the direction of the school district to achieve high student performance

  • Creating strategic partnerships with community stakeholders

  • Budget development and adoption

  • Policy development and adoption

Nominating Petitions

Anyone interested in serving the district as a school board member should come to the district office located at 424 Main St, Cairo, NY, 12413 to retrieve a nominating petition. Any questions can be directed to Board Clerk Nyrelle Colon at 518-622-8534 ext. 25010.

Prospective nominees must have a primary residence in the Cairo-Durham Central School District and be registered voters.

Prospective school board candidates must obtain at least 25 signatures on the nominating petition (supporters who sign the petition must also be residents in the school district).

Completed nominating petitions are due back to the Board Clerk by 5 p.m. at the District Office 30 days prior to the budget vote. Detailed schedule can be found on the District's budget page.
