Mr. Pangburn, sophomore Emma Kargoe holding a certificate, and Mr. Hanley

Congratulations to Emma Kargoe, our Cairo-Durham High School Student of the Month for May 2022! Emma is pictured here with her Living Environment teachers, Mr. Pangburn and Mr. Hanley, two people that she greatly admires.

Emma is a girl on fire and truly loved by all here at Cairo-Durham. She is outgoing and enjoys forming strong relationships with all of her teachers. As a sophomore this year, Emma feels that she has begun to move out of her comfort zone a bit, enabling her to build strong bonds with her peers as well. Emma is the treasurer of our CD Student Council and for the Class of 2024.

Emma has a passion for music and learning and has truly become a social butterfly. She is an active member of multiple music ensembles such as chorus, band, women’s choir and hand bell. In addition to all of this talent, Emma has participated in our school musicals since the 7th grade. Her love of music will take on a more serious role next year as she will be directing the middle school’s production of “Annie.” Now that’s ambition and talent at its best! Of course this love of music carries over into Emma’s time away from school where she enjoys attending musicals and plays, but she also loves visiting museums/historical sites, taking karate lessons, reading, and hanging out with her friends.

Emma’s leadership qualities are a welcome addition to our student body and she is an amazing example to all. Her plans for the future, not surprisingly, include becoming a music or drama teacher.

We are honored to have Emma in our district and look forward to seeing all that she is able to accomplish here during her junior and senior years. Congratulations Emma!
