Mrs. Williams’ 5th grade class did a project involving measurement and geometry as well as some aspects of business.

They took orders from school staff and created paper Christmas trees and ornaments using geometric shapes and specific measurement criteria. Teachers paid with “Wills Bills,” Mrs. Williams’ classroom currency that students collected for use in a future class auction.

Trees could be personalized and ordered in three sizes with various themes such as information about how countries around the world celebrate the holidays. Students also made geometric “gifts” that were three dimensional. Math Coach Mr. Goodwin helped students with their designs.

They delivered the completed trees to teachers and staff this week.

“The kids were so proud of their designs and their reactions to the teachers’ enthusiasm and ‘tips’ was absolutely priceless,” Mrs. Williams said.

The school is looking very festive ahead of the holiday recess!
