Tax Collection Period (2019-2020)
Tax bills were mailed to district residents at the end of August.
Payment of school taxes should be made to the Cairo-Durham CSD Tax Collector between September 3-October 2, 2019. After October 2, 2019, an interest charge of 2% will be applied. No tax payments will be accepted or processed by the School Tax Collector if postmarked after November 1, 2019. All taxes remaining unpaid, plus penalty, after November 1st shall be returned to the County Treasurer for further collection.
See "Payment of Taxes" below for payment options and details.
Payment of Taxes

- Simply enter your information into Info-Tax Online and click "Search" (only one line of information is needed; the less information you enter, the better)
- Once you have brought up your tax information, the "Pay Balance" tab appears near the bottom left of the screen. Please note that the "Pay Balance" tab will not appear until September 1, 2019. (Convenience fees will apply to all online payments.)
- Please allow seven (7) business days after date of payment for "paid status" to appear online.
In person: Payment of school taxes may also be made in person to the Cairo-Durham Central School District Tax Collector at the Bank of Greene County – Cairo Branch ONLY (230 M. Simons Road, Cairo, NY 12413) in the lobby only, during the following times with the exception of any holidays:

You must include the original tax bill with your payment. No partial payments shall be accepted.
STAR (School Tax Relief) Exemption
Basic STAR exemption: Most residents who own and live in their home are eligible for the NYS Basic STAR property tax exemption on their primary residence. Basic STAR works by exempting the first $30,000 of the full value of a home from school taxes.
Enhanced STAR exemption: Available for senior citizens (age 65 and older) with yearly household incomes not exceeding the statewide standard. For qualifying senior citizens, the Enhanced STAR program provides additional savings by exempting a greater portion of full value from school taxes.
Click here to learn more about the STAR program, or call 518-457-2036.
Important Changes to STAR Exemption Program: New applicants who qualify for STAR must register with New York State instead of applying with their assessor. You will receive a STAR credit in the form of a check, rather than receiving a property tax exemption. The dollar value of the credit will be the same as the property tax exemption. You can register online here or by phone at 518-457-2036. These changes do not affect homeowners who registered for the STAR exemption prior to the 2015 deadline.
