(May 1, 2018) -- Three (3) of the nine seats on Cairo-Durham’s Board of Education are up for election on the May 15 ballot. The terms of John Amoroso, Brian Coletti and Elizabeth Daly will expire on June 30, 2018. Each open seat is a three-year, non-paid term beginning on July 1, 2018 (through June 30, 2020).
There are two candidates running for the three open seats. John Amoroso and Elizabeth Daly are running for re-election. One seat may be filled by a write-in candidate.
I have served on the Cairo-Durham Board of Education since 2012 and I am interested in continuing my service as a board member for several reasons. I have three daughters who went through the Cairo-Durham district, from kindergarten to graduation. They have gone on to college and felt that they had every advantage because of their school and community. They played sports, were in school musicals, marched in the St. Patrick's Day parade in NYC, experienced college level coursework and much more. There are great things happening in Cairo-Durham schools and I want to continue to be part of that.
I believe strongly that an educator should be a member of the school board. I have been in public education for 25 plus years as a school counselor, with a background in therapeutic residential care prior to that.
I love where we live—the mountains are beautiful through all seasons, and being part of a small, tight-knit community where folks help each other daily is very rewarding.
Thank you for this opportunity to serve my community. I have enjoyed the challenges being a board member has brought. I take this responsibility seriously and only want to make our schools stronger—one student, one decision at a time.
