Positive Cases at CDMS/HS (1/22)

January 22, 2021

Dear Cairo-Durham Families,

The District was informed that three remote high school students tested positive for COVID-19. As fully remote students, the individuals have not been on campus and there is no impact on the in-person learning environment. Additionally, a positive test result was reported for a middle school student who was last in school on Friday, January 8th. Based on the last date of in-person attendance and the date of the positive test result, no school contact tracing was required (as advised by the DOH). Although these cases do not affect daily operations, Cairo-Durham CSD remains committed to keeping you informed as new COVID-19 cases pop up within our school community.

Providing a safe in-person learning environment for our students and staff continues to be our number one priority. We must keep working together to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community. We ask that families continue to follow all safety guidelines outside of school hours including wearing masks or face coverings, washing your hands, practicing social distancing, avoiding gatherings, and staying home if you/your child are sick, awaiting test results or have recently been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Know the symptoms of COVID-19 and how to identify them in yourself and others, particularly the loss of taste or smell as that is considered a primary indicator of COVID-19 in asymptomatic individuals. If you have questions or concerns, or if you need to report a COVID-19 related health issue, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s principal or school nurse.

Sincerely,

Michael Wetherbee
Superintendent of Schools
