December 22, 2020
Dear Cairo-Durham Families,
The District was notified of three positive COVID-19 cases in our elementary school community:
- A CDE staff member - This individual was last present in school on December 11th.
- A CDE student - The student was last present in school on December 10th.
- A CDE staff member - This individual was last present in school on December 18th.
After consulting with the Greene County Department of Health to conduct contact tracing, it was determined that no additional quarantines are necessary based on the last dates of attendance within the school as well as the dates of the positive test results. As in previous cases, the DOH is responsible for determining if quarantine is required and the duration of the quarantine. We continue to follow DOH guidance each time our district has a positive case.
As a reminder, we plan to return to regular instruction for in-person/hybrid students after the holiday recess on Monday, January 4th. If anything changes, you will be notified as soon as possible.
Lastly, one more reminder to please use your best judgement when celebrating the upcoming holidays. At this time, the recommended number of individuals in a private residence is 10 or fewer, and masks are strongly recommended indoors at all times except when eating or drinking. Additionally, travel outside of NYS is highly discouraged. Please review these state travel restrictions and notify the district if your child travels out of the state over break. As always, the safest way to celebrate is at home with your immediate family.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and diligence to help keep us all safe and healthy. If you have questions or need assistance, or if you need to report a COVID-19 related health issue, please do not hesitate to reach out to the schools or email your child’s principal.
