NOTICE OF ANNUAL PUBLIC HEARING ON THE BUDGET, ANNUAL MEETING, SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTION AND VOTE NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Board of Education of the Cairo Durham Central School District, Greene County, New York, that it will hold the Public Hearing on the Budget of the qualified voters of the Cairo Durham Central School District by videoconference, which will be available at cairodurham.org on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 6:00 p.m., prevailing time, for the purpose of presenting the budget document for the 2020-2021 School Year. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District’s Budget for 2020-2021, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any resident of the District beginning Friday, May 29, 2020 on the District website. The real property tax exemption report in accordance with §495 of the Real Property Tax Law will be annexed to any tentative/preliminary budget as well as the final adopted budget of which it will form a part; and shall be posted on the District’s website. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the School District Election and Vote on the Budget of the qualified voters of said School District will be conducted exclusively by using absentee ballots, on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, until 5:00 P.M., prevailing time, for the following purposes:
A. To vote on the adoption of the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2020-2021 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the School District.
B. The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education: One (1) seat for Stephen Brandow for a three (3) year term expiring June 30, 2023 One (1) seat for Bernadette Gavin-Palmieri for a three (3) year term expiring June 30, 2023 One (1) seat for David Infantino for a three (3) year term expiring June 30, 2023 A petition is required to nominate a candidate to the office of member of the Board of Education. Each petition must be directed to the District Clerk and must state the name and residence of the candidate and that he or she meets the qualifications to be a member of the Board of Education. There is no minimum signature requirement for the nominating petition. Each petition shall be filed with the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 PM, Monday, May 11, 2020 at firstname.lastname@example.org. Petition forms may be obtained from the District Clerk or on the District website.
C. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CAIRO- DURHAM CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT that the following propositions be presented to the voters at the scheduled videoconference:
- SHALL the annual appropriation to support and maintain the Cairo-Durham Public Library be increased in the amount of $803, for a total annual appropriation of $19,303, which sum shall be separate and apart from the Cairo-Durham Central School District annual school district budget, and be raised annually by at tax upon the taxable property of the school district, and which appropriation shall be the annual appropriation for the library until changed by further vote of the electors of the school district, and such tax shall be levied and collected yearly as are other general taxes?
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting closure of school buildings and in an effort to maintain health and safety, the District Clerk will not be registering voters of the District. If a voter has heretofore registered to vote with the District and has voted at an annual or special school district meeting within the last four calendar years, s/he is eligible to vote at this election and vote. If an eligible voter is currently registered to vote with the Greene County Board of Elections, s/he is also eligible to vote in this election and vote. All other persons who wish to vote must register with Greene County Board of Elections by mail or online through the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles website at https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that absentee ballots for the Annual School District Election and Vote will be sent to all known registered voters. Absentee ballots must be received by the School District Clerk not later than 5:00 P.M., prevailing time, on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that Military Voters may register and/or request a military ballot from the District Clerk at email: email@example.com or by Telephone: (518)622-8534 ext. 25010 by no later than 5:00 PM on May 14, 2020. The Military Voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application/ballot by mail, by facsimile or email. Military ballots will be mailed or otherwise distributed no later than 25 days before the election. Military ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 PM on election day and showing a cancellation mark of the U.S postal service or a foreign country’s postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the U.S. government or signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereof, with a date which is ascertained to be not later than the day before the election. A list of all persons to whom military ballots shall have been issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District, upon request until the day of the Annual School District Election and Vote.
