Meals for Students During School Closure

Updated May 8, 2020

Cairo-Durham CSD is committed to continuing the school breakfast and lunch program for our students during the extended school closure period from Tuesday, March 17 until Wednesday, April 29, 2020. This closure follows a statewide effort to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Starting Tuesday, March 24, pick-up locations and times for student meals will be:

  • Cairo-Durham Elementary School (424 Main Street, Cairo) between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Durham Elementary building (4099 NY-145, Durham) between 12 and 12:15 p.m. only

Starting Monday, April 13, student meal pick up will occur on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. Although the frequency of distribution will be reduced, you will still receive the same amount of meals (on Monday and Wednesday you will get two days worth of food and on Friday you will get three). Please remember to refrigerate meals within four hours.

Please look for a representative or sign indicating where meals can be picked up at the above locations. Students will need to provide their name and grade when picking up meals. If your student is not with you when you pick up meals, you still will need to provide the requested information.

We set up a phone line for parents/guardians to call and let us know if they want to “sign up” their child(ren) for school meals during this time frame. The number is 518-622-3231. Please call and leave a message with your name, contact information and any allergy notices. Even while schools are closed, someone is able to check voicemails remotely. It is important to call and notify us so we know how many student meals to have available.

The District is making all efforts to meet the needs of all of our families during this challenging time. Please understand that as we determine needs, we will adjust accordingly. Updates will be posted as necessary.
