Letter from Principal Stein (March 17)

March 17, 2020

Dear CDE Families,

Yesterday at school, teachers met with administrators to discuss plans for developing and distributing materials for remote instruction. Time was also spent discussing remote instruction with students to help them understand this shift in the learning environment, how teachers will communicate with them, and what types of materials will be provided during this time. Each teacher and grade level will be different, however we compiled this general webpage to outline the various digital learning resources, technology and WiFi information at our disposal. Please be sure to add “@cairodurham.org” to your user name for iReady.

Printed resources and assignments will also be developed and mailed directly to student homes. If possible, we encourage you and your students to check your email frequently to maintain the school/family relationship during this time of extended closure. The most important thing you can do for your child instructionally is to encourage reading and practice of math skills daily.

As a reminder, schools are closed from Tuesday, March 17 (conference day) through at least April 1, 2020 in a statewide effort to mitigate the potential spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This time frame follows an executive order issued by Governor Cuomo on March 16. We understand that this is an inconvenience for our families, but our primary concern is the health and safety of our students and staff. Nothing about this is ideal and we will pull together and do the best we can for our children. We appreciate your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Mr. Christopher Stein
Elementary Principal
