This is to provide clarification regarding the action taken by the Cairo-Durham School Board at their April 24th Special Meeting to adopt a school budget for the 2014-15 school year.
At that meeting, the CD School Board considered 2 budget options:
- Option #1 would have kept and carried forward all current buildings and programs already in place.
- Option #2 considered the closure of the Cairo Durham Elementary School building - as well as how the savings created by its closure and resulting reconfiguration might be reallocated to improve upon programs and delivery models.
At this meeting, the CD School Board voted and approved option #2.
The School Board will now move forward to provide additional opportunities for public engagement regarding this initial action. It will schedule a series of public forums to gather feedback and input regarding the schools continued evolution towards heightened student performance.
However, the School Board must still pass a resolution to in order to finally and officially close the Cairo-Durham Elementary School building for the 2014-15 school year.
