May 15, 2020
In the interest of public safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic, voting this year will take place using absentee ballots only, per Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order. Every eligible voter will receive an absentee ballot and a postage paid return envelope in the mail. All completed absentee ballots must be received by the District Office no later than June 9, 2020.
Qualified voters of the Cairo-Durham Central School District who have registered to vote and those who have voted in a Cairo-Durham election/vote during the past four years will receive absentee ballots by mail. A qualified voter who does not receive an absentee ballot must request one (PDF).
To be a qualified voter you must be:
- a US Citizen at least 18 years old by June 9, 2020
- a School District resident for 30 days immediately preceding the vote
- not otherwise unable to register for or vote at an election in accordance with the provisions of Section 5-106 of the election law.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no personal voter registration held at school district offices prior to the June 9 vote. Anyone who meets the definition of a “qualified voter” but has not registered to vote may request an absentee ballot by submitting a completed absentee ballot request form (PDF) to the Board Clerk (at firstname.lastname@example.org or the District Office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.).
