4th & 5th Graders Win District Spelling Bee

2018 District Spelling Bee winners with student judges, who previously won the bee

Kingston Czajkowski (Grade 4) and Rosie Fucito (Grade 5) came in first and second place, respectively, in Cairo-Durham’s annual district spelling bee, held on January 10. Kingston will demonstrate his stellar spelling skills again when he competes in the Regional Spelling Bee at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

This year, two CDHS students who previously participated in the Regional Spelling Bee joined the district bee as judges. Drew Sirago came in second at Regionals and Phebe Cunningham was in the top ten at Regionals.

First place winner Kingston received two prizes, courtesy of the CDMS Student Council: a $50 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble and one year of Britannica Kids, an online encyclopedia resource for kids (valued at $75). Rosie also received one year of Britannica Kids and a $25 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.

Big thanks to everyone who has supported the bee over the years, and especially the CDMS Student Council for sponsoring the district spelling bee and providing prizes for the winners!
