In conjunction with Catholic Charities of Columbia and Greene Counties, the Middle School will be participating in the Prescription Drug Awareness Week (April 7-11) . There will be a poster contest that students may enter until May 2, 2014 and gritty points will be awarded to the grade level with the most participants. Entry forms are available in the main office.

Mr. Poulsen (Middle School parent) assisted the 8th grade students with their "Crazy Contraption" planning and building. In 7th grade, he worked with students using Autodesk Inventor, a CAD program. The 6th grade students had just learned about ancient forms of measurement and were working on a lab using those forms of measurement. He helped students measure correctly. The visit was a great success, and another visit is planned for April.
On Thursday, January 30th, students in the Middle School participated in a school wide STEM based lesson focused on Thin Films. Developed by a team of Middle School teachers using a Learning Module from NEATEC (Northeast Advanced Technological Education Center), all students in grades 6-8 were exposed to a lesson that asked students to:
As part of their Ecology Unit, sixth graders learned about the different biomes of the world. Each student completed a travel brochure for one of the biomes. They had to include things like the climate, animal and plant life, what kinds of things one could do there, what a person might bring if visiting the biome, and interesting facts about it. They had to try to convince people to want to visit. (Imagine convincing someone to visit the tundra on their vacation!) This all took research and using a brochure template on the computer.
