The Cairo-Durham Central School District is committed to providing high quality, research-based instruction to all students. For some students, a more intensive level of support may be appropriate. When a student qualifies for special education services, an individualized educational program (IEP) is developed to provide supports aimed at helping the student succeed in the least restrictive environment possible.

Special Education Child Find
Child Find refers to the process of locating, identifying and evaluating children with disabilities to ensure that they receive services to which they are entitled. Children and youth, ages three to 21, living in the Cairo Durham Central School District, who are suspected of having a disability, may be referred for a possible evaluation to determine if they are eligible for special education services. This includes district residents who may be home-schooled or are attending private school.
If you are aware of a preschool child, from ages three through five, or a school age student from five through 21 years old who may be in need of special education services, please the Office of Pupil Personnel Services, Douglas Morrissey, Director, at 518-622-0261.
Preschool Special Education
The purpose of the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is to determine if a preschool-aged child between the ages of three through five is eligible for preschool special education services and to ensure that they receive the support necessary to prepare them to enter kindergarten. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act requires schools across the country to support students experiencing homelessness. Students living in insecure living environments may be eligible to receive services and accommodations to ensure stability in their education. Every registering family is asked to complete a housing questionnaire to assist in determining their homeless status. Already registered families are encouraged to notify either the Pupil Personnel Services Office or their school office if they believe they might meet the criteria of the McKinney-Vento Act.
