Message from the Board of Education (3/28/2019)

March 28, 2019

Dear Cairo-Durham Parents:

The Cairo-Durham CSD Board of Education announces that Superintendent Anthony Taibi is resigning from his position as Superintendent of Schools at Cairo-Durham to take the position of Chief Academic Officer at Questar III BOCES. Mr. Taibi will leave Cairo-Durham after seven years as high school principal and five years as district superintendent. While Mr. Taibi's resignation is effective May 20, 2019, based upon the availability of the interim candidate and in an effort to ensure a smooth transition, Mr. Taibi's last day will be March 29th. Thus Mr. Taibi will commence a leave from his position as superintendent on March 29, 2019, until such time as he commences new employment with Questar III.

From the start, the Board of Education and Mr. Taibi have worked tirelessly to support and improve educational initiatives at Cairo-Durham. Much has been accomplished through the work of the Board, Mr. Taibi and the dedicated Cairo-Durham staff. Together we have created a strategic vision for the district and will continue working toward achieving our goals and supporting our students.

We are also pleased to announce that the Board had interviewed and will be appointing Douglas Kelley as the Interim Superintendent of Schools at its meeting on March 28, 2019, to commence employment on March 29, 2019. Mr. Kelley is a retired superintendent of schools with many years of administrative experience in school districts. We look forward to him guiding the district while the Board conducts a search for a new superintendent of schools.

In the coming days and weeks, the Board and district leaders will work to build a seamless leadership transition plan, which will include developing a search process for candidates for the next superintendent of Cairo-Durham CSD. Mr. Taibi has offered any assistance that may be requested during that transition.

Mr. Taibi will be missed, but we wish him nothing but the best in his new position. We will continue to keep students and their parents up-to-date on the progress of our school's leadership transition and look forward to ushering in the next era of Cairo-Durham education together.

Sincerely,

Cairo-Durham CSD Board of Education
