Cairo-Durham High School Students Get Real World Work Experience
New this year to Cairo-Durham High School is the Career Research Seminar. This class is open to all seniors who display a high level of motivation. This class provides career exploration for students and allows them to gather information and conduct occupational research inside and outside the classroom. In addition to classroom work, each student will be placed at a local business where the student has a professional interest. Students will have real life work experience from a variety of local businesses, including an animal hospital, a pharmacy and the Universal Pre-Kindergarten classroom in Cairo Elementary. “The goal of having students placed locally within the district is to help bridge the gap between the community and the school,” said Heather Maassmann, Business Teacher.
“This class provides students with an opportunity to find out if the career they are exploring is the right fit for them at an earlier age,” said Thomas Karnes, Business Teacher. All students who successfully complete the Career Research Seminar will receive 3 credits from Columbia-Greene Community College.
Local businesses have the opportunity to meet with Cairo-Durham High School business teachers and district administration during the Career Research Seminar Meet and Greet on October 27th at 8am at the Media Center in the High School. For any local business interested in learning more about the Career Research Seminar, please email Heather Maassmann at hmaassmann@cairodurham.org.
